    Bookmarker's Notes

If he had half a mind of self-preservation left, he would have called Ryland, and he knew that Ryland would drive down from San Francisco to San José in a heartbeat. But, like with Jody, he didn’t want to be seen by Ryland.

If it was just himself, he could pretend that anything before the fall was simply some kind of lucid dream. Colt didn’t have to think about the people he was hurting with his radio silence. He didn’t need to consider what it would look like to the people who loved him if he stopped inviting them to watch parties of old action movies, stopped calling randomly during the lunch breaks he tracked diligently in a calendar, stopped leaving the house as much if not just to go to the gym or work or grocery shopping.

    ---

Ten months after Colt's accident, he found himself struggling to figure out who he was. At the same time, he'd rather eat his own shoe than ask for help. Everybody probably thought he was pathetic enough already, so who cared if he mistreated himself?

    (Ryland cared.)

    Summary

Courtland Gentry prides himself on being observant. It’s saved his life more often than not, and the lives of the people around him. He can sense a threat coming before anyone else gets a whiff of danger, he's quick to react and handle any scenario thrown at him. It's how he's survived for this long doing what he does for a living, working with the kinds of people he deals with. Safe to say, the happenings in his home are well within Court’s domain of knowledge.

So when Ryland and Colt start sneaking (or at least they think they're sneaking) around behind his back, it doesn't take Courtland long to figure out what they're up to. Now, he could make excuses for it, could try and downplay it, but what would be the point in that? He knows it, they know it, might as well be upfront with it.

    His brothers are fucking.

or: Ryland and Colt are looking for their third. Courtland wants nothing more than to be that third. Something about an elephant being in the room, and none of them want to address it.

    Summary

The man lying in front of her looks like Six. Almost exactly like him, actually. But there are hairline differences that she's only really seeing now that he's close. He's big, but not particularly muscular. He's wearing a shirt with Snoopy on it. When she checks his mostly bare arms, she finds none of the scars or tattoos she made a careful study of during the few days she knew him.

She also realizes where she knows the divets on his nose from; her uncle has the exact same thing when he takes his reading glasses off and kisses her head goodnight.

He's not Six. She has no idea who this is.

    "What the fuck." Claire whispers.
