Regulus feels like he’s going to vomit. He takes a deep breath, clears his hair from his face, and strides towards the center of the room with his chin high. He eyes Dumbledore, the Abnegation leader, as he takes the knife from the man, turning to the bowls and ignoring the old man -- even before the articles Rita Skeeter started releasing about him and the Abnegation faction, he didn’t like the man.
Five bowls. Stones, Water, Earth, Lit Coals, and Glass. His fate lays out in front of him in the form of five large bowls and the elements they hold.

He probably assumes that Regulus is going to pick Erudite anyway, and he wouldn’t want to be disappointed.
He’s wrong.
Regulus swiftly turns to his left, letting his blood sizzle over coals.
The word ‘Divergent’ screams at him from the back of his mind. He knows his family would kill him if they found out, maybe he’s safer in Dauntless.

I couldn’t breathe, no matter how much I heaved, air seemed to fly right past me. The broken lands seemed to only crumble more as I fled. His voice echoed in my brain, unrecognizable and yet unmistakable at the same time. The pounding of my feet matched my heart. Almost in rhythm with the voice that screamed at me.

James sneers. “You’re a liar. You want this. You just don’t want to admit it.”“I don’t need you,” Regulus snapped, fury flooding him.
“Then why the fuck do you keep coming back?” James growled, stepping even closer, his chest pressing against Regulus’s. “Why do I feel you all over me, even when you're not here?” Regulus’s breath hitches. He can’t think, can’t breathe. “I don’t need this. I don’t-”
Before he can finish, James’s mouth crashes against his. It’s not gentle. It’s a mess of teeth and desperation. Regulus freezes, his body betraying him as the kiss consumes him. They pull apart, both of them gasping for air. James’s grip on Regulus tightens.
“You can lie to everyone else,” James says, voice low, dangerous. “But not to me.”
Regulus’s hands trembled, unable to tear himself away.
