Kate’s face tightened. “Held it how?”
Daniel lifted one shoulder.
“Just—”
Daniel could remember the exact pressure better than he could remember whole hours around it.
“Through my hair. Held the back of my head,” Daniel murmured.
He could hear himself drifting away from testimony. The clean edges of fact had begun dissolving into sensation, each sentence pulling him a little farther from something he was reporting and a little closer to something he was sitting inside again.
“He said he was the quiet I’d been longing for.”
Alice’s hand twitched in her lap.
The frightening part was how badly, by then, Daniel wanted the quiet once it was offered.
“I like it,” Daniel said.
Alice’s fingers went still against his sleeve.
Daniel’s eyes remained lowered. “The quiet.”
Daniel Molloy has a perfectly reasonable explanation for every terrible decision he has ever made.
His daughters are less interested in the explanation than the part where he was their father.
Or: Daniel Molloy discovers being somebody’s good boy does not make him a good father.

Daniel and Armand turn in early, well before dawn, without one of them traipsing back downstairs to check on Sam. As he drifts off, Daniel thinks he hears the first interview tape start to play from the beginning. He has no objections to Sam doing his own listen-through of all five in order to make his own transcripts; heaven knows that’s preferable to the Talamasca confiscating the recordings. They likely still will.
When Daniel wakes at dusk the next evening, the body next to him is cold. That in and of itself is not unusual, as the body next to him is almost always cold. It’s not until he cuddles closer and inadvertently inhales soft, wavy hair that he realizes the scent is all wrong. Lavender, sandalwood, amber. That’s not Armand’s cologne; Armand wears scents so rarely, but when he does, sweeter florals and spices are typical.

Some don't know he's a vampire and thus makes everyone uneasy. Regis knows that Lambert likes Gwent and to diverge attention and tension, suggests that the two witchers play a few rounds. Leading to some interesting bonding moments.
